You know, if we were in the Northern Hemisphere, we would have celebrated May Day, or really Beltane.
In Grafton we had Jacaranda Thursday, when the whole town lets it's hair down and goes a little bit crazy.
Here's a quote I just read about Beltane:
" Despite many efforts to quell its rowdy good humour and lusty enjoyment down through the centuries, it has survived in very good shape up to our own time. The sheer exuberance of Beltane overwhelms the restrictive and humourless reformers who have tried to stop it.
Cancel Work. Go and enjoy Beltane. Be outdoors. Have fun."
If that's the formula for Beltane - Grafton fulfilled it well and truly. Jacaranda is the oldest Floral Festival in Australia.
